Can the furniture get too hot in the sun? Which lumber colors hold the least amount of heat?
No material is impervious to the sun's rays. Anything can get too hot if left in direct sunlight for a long time, including wood, aluminum, and even HDPE. But there are plenty of ways to keep your furniture cool:
- Place furniture under trees, umbrellas, pergolas, or other shaded areas.
- Use outdoor cushions and umbrellas to shield furniture from sunlight.
- Select light-colored furniture and cushions as they absorb less heat than dark shades.
- Dirt and debris can absorb and retain heat, so clean your furniture regularly.
- If you don't have a shaded area, situate your furniture so it’s not directly facing the sun for extended periods, and rotate or reposition as needed.
- Try cooling sprays or misting systems to lower the ambient temperature around furniture.
- When not in use, store furniture in a garage or shed, or use protective covers.
Trex Outdoor Furniture doesn't sell furniture covers directly, but you can purchase them from the Coverstore.
Pro tip: Keep your furniture’s dimensions handy to ensure you pick the perfect-fit cover.
